I don’t write nearly enough

But I’ve settled down and relaxed for the evening….and now find myself wanting to do something, so here I go.

hi

I find myself looking to expand my skill set as of late.  Well…not really as of late as much as it’s been ramped up even more as of late.  I read about new advances in web and mobile app development on a daily basis.  New tricks and techniques people are trying.  I need to get in on some of those things a bit more.

What I’ve been working on lately, has been kind of ‘safe’.  Not that I haven’t been doing new or interesting things…however, I see other sites and designers getting spotlights and I think to myself “I can do that.  There’s no reason why I can’t do that, if not more.”  But I find that while I have tons of creative freedom, it’s relative to how much freedom I used to have.  At the end of the day, I am actually limited by our target audience and the products that we are trying to make.  Usability…there are just certain ways that a site/product/service should be created…and going out of the box on that may be interesting and could potentially be intuitive, it will more than likely completely mind fuck the majority of your audience.

This is where new properties, products and services come into play….however the problem with those is that if you don’t hit it out of the park to the point that ‘it’ flies to the next town and hits an influential person on the head (but not hard enough that he/she can’t blog about it…or…something more useful than blogging) ‘it’ again won’t go very far.

That’s of little concern to me outside of my ‘meet the bottom line’ mentality.  I’d really just like to start up a bunch of random new projects, in my free time, and see where they go / if they go anywhere.

It all comes down to me learning more, though.  I think that’s actually a good place to end this, because the more I type, the less time I’m spending on learning something new.

bye
